Islam (اإسلام; al-islam, Arabic), is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion originating from the 7th century with the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The word Islam means "submission," or the total surrender of oneself to God (Allah). An adherent or follower of Islam is known as a Muslim (Arabic: مسلم)

The five essential acts of worship and behavior that all Muslims are expected to observe are known as the Five pillars islam. The cornerstones of a Muslim's beliefs and way of life are these pillars. They are taken from the Hadith (prophet Muhammad's sayings and deeds) and the Quran's (Islam's sacred book) teachings.

Salah (Prayer)

Saying five prayers per day at set hours of the day and night. Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night) are the names of the prayers. While praying, Muslims in Mecca face the Kaaba.

Zakat (Charity)

The practice of giving a part of one's wealth—typically 2.5% of one's savings and investments—to those in need. Zakat is meant to benefit the less fortunate members of society and cleanse one's wealth.

Sawm (Fasting)

Keeping a fast throughout the Islamic month of Ramadan by forgoing food, liquids, tobacco, and other necessities from dawn to dusk. Fasting provides a time for introspection, self-control, and compassion for others who are less fortunate.

Hajj (journey)

If one is physically and financially able, one should make the journey to the holy city of Mecca at least once in their lifetime. Hajj is a series of ceremonies honoring the deeds of Prophet Ibrahim and his family that take place during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

World Population[]
